Triggering the jewellery’s power attracts the attention of a secret society determined to confiscate the device – and silence everyone who is aware of its existence. Anamae knows too much, and now she’s Enemy Number One. She’s forced to leave her father behind when she’s taken in by a group determined to keep her safe. Here Anamae searches for answers about this hidden world. With her father kidnapped and her own life on the line, Anamae must decide if saving her dad is worth risking her new friends’ lives. No matter what she does, somebody is going to get hurt.
REVIEW: This is the beginning of a 4 book series of the secret society called The Collective. Mae (Anamae) lives with her Dad, age 17 now as her Mom, Annie, left over 9 yrs prior. Her best friend is Will. Mae tries on a piece of her Mom’s jewelry, a necklace as Will found a brooch to match it- in the shape of a flower, the Forget Me Not. Mae thinks it is a reminder of her Mom. However, when she tries the brooch on, things happen- she goes invisible. She takes it off- she’s back- she experiments- and it happens again. She puts both pieces in the jewelry box and within a few minutes it seems; an operative from the Collective under guise as a service repairman for gas is there to steal it. Jax also shows up to save her but he also is just a teenager but he kicks butt! All Mae knows that 2 people are fighting over the brooch- they don’t know abt the necklace! She gets out of there and runs with Will to the pawn shop where Will got the brooch. Al there recognizes what happened when Mae tells the story and immediately takes them to a ‘safe’ place: a resistance house. They can’t go home as now they are wanted as fugitives as they also noted on the news!
The Collective want to rule the world by using technology- but technology that people haven’t seen or used in a long time or ever before. That is the key as Mae has found that the technology is hidden among jewelry and she has 2 pieces. They want it! This story is fast paced-many twist and turns and will keep you guessing all the way to the end but it doesn’t stop there as it leads you to want more.
