It is about a slave girl, Faru, who is exchanged for a wife for the king. She finds herself in a new home with a new master and life is always going up and down. We’ll join her in chapter 2 when she is leaving her home for the new one:

The carriage pulled to a halt, and Lord Cegrol looked up from where he sat. The ride had lasted close to half a glass, Faru estimated, and in that whole time, the lord had not said a single word to her, nor had he looked up from his folded hands. Now he graced Faru with a smile. It was a sad smile, but a smile nonetheless.
“What is your name, child?” his musical voice inquired.
“Faru, milord.”
He seemed to see her for the first time. His eyes took her in, and Faru felt the heat rush to her face.
“Well, Faru, welcome to our home away from home.” He paused as he looked out the window. “It is nothing like my Castle Fearann, but it is comfortable.”
They descended from the coach onto a cobblestone drive surrounded by blooming rhododendron plants. The whites and pinks softened the harshness of the reds. Beyond the bushes, Faru noticed the house that loomed up above her. The dark bricks were a stark contrast to the stone she was accustomed to. Lord Cegrol led the way up wide, winding stairs to the front door. Torches on either side flickered against the brickwork, which seemed to trap the light instead of sending it out to welcome the master home. As Cegrol opened the door, he was greeted by a portly, elderly lady.
“Lord Cegrol, welcome home. You must be exhausted. Let me get your cloak. You just go up to your den. I’ll have Trystan bring you your evening meal.”
“Thank you, Kadi,” Lord Cegrol replied. “I would appreciate that. First, though, we need to help Faru get settled.”
“Don’t you worry at all about that. I’ll take care of everything.”
Lord Cegrol nodded and slowly plodded up another wide staircase. The motherly woman turned to Faru.
“And you are?”
“My name is Faru, ma’am,” the young slave girl replied, trying not to fidget with her long curly hair.
“Lord Cegrol told me your name. What I want to know is, why are you here?”
Faru shivered, not just from the draft that flickered the candles in their sconces, but also from the internal cold.
“Ma’am, a glass ago, I was preparing my mistress’s evening meal as I have done since I was old enough to help my mother. The queen came and brought me to a parlor where King Cyning and Lord Cegrol and Lady Cwen sat. King Cyning walked off with Lady Cwen, and my mistress showed Lord Cegrol and me to the door where the carriage was waiting. Lord Cegrol brought me here. I do not have anything with me. I am at your disposal.”
“You are right about that,” the woman said. “I am Kadi, the housekeeper. Anything that happens in this house, I direct. That includes you.”
Kadi paused, sizing up the new servant before she continued. “What besides serving meals are you good at?”
This was territory that Faru understood.
“I clean rooms. I’ve done some cooking, but more so, just helping the cook prepare food. I’ve taken care of little ones so others can do their work, and I’ve been taught to weave.”
“I see,” Kadi stated, pursing her lips. “You won’t have much opportunity to take care of children in this household unless it is servants’ children.” She stood, looking Faru up and down before she continued. “I suppose for tonight, you can just get settled in. Tomorrow is early enough to start. Follow me.”

Kandi Wyatt has taken historical fiction and elevated it to a higher level. Her world building pulls you in and puts you right in the middle of the adventure. This is why I love her books. I immediately recogized the story line in her newest book. It is the story of Hagar and her son Ishmael. However, she has taken the information from the Bible and told Hagars story from her perspective. She also removed it from the Biblical time period and set it in medieval times. For me this works so well. We find Faru (Hagar) traded from her mistress to a young Lord. When his wife is finally returned to him, they keep her. Things go along well for years with Faru attending to Lady Cwen’s needs. She even finds herself falling in love with a young man named Cailean. But all of this is to change because The Existing One has told him he will have a son.
I will say nothing further because to do so will spoil such a wonderful story. However, if you are familiar with the story you know what will happen. The story is full of hope, love, betrayal and the hardship of living the life of a servant in medieval times. It is also full of hope and trust in “The Existing One”. As a Christian it is a reminder to all who follow him that we must always place our trust in God and understand that even through hardships he knows what is best for us. I will definitely recommend this book to others and because it is such a clean read and one that will appeal to teens and adult, will proudly put a copy on my shelves at school. I can’t wait to see what this author comes up with next.

‘The One Who Sees me’ is a story about a Biblical Character that most of us will look at in a new light after reading this book. It takes us on a journey with Faru, a common servant who one day becomes the maid servant of the very favored Lord Cegrol and Lady Cwen. A Lord and Lady who has been promised a special child by The Existing One.
In finding her new life Faru learns about the remarkably strong faith of her Lord and the true Divine Power of the God he serves, and the depth of The Existing One’s promises to His people. Faru uncovers also the magnitude of her Lord’s faith and how it has become her own when she experiences being intimately seen and heard by the very One she has doubted for so long.
Well worth the read. Kandi has done an wonderful job bringing this captivating story to life!

About the Authors

Cindy M. Hogan is inspired by the unpredictable teenagers she teaches. More than anything she loves the time she has with her own teenage daughters and wishes she could freeze them at this fun age. If she’s not reading or writing, you’ll find her snuggled up with the love of her life watching a great movie or planning their next party. Most of all, she loves to laugh.
Jo Noelle grew up in Colorado and Utah but also lived in Idaho and California. She has two adult children and three small kids. She teaches teachers and students about reading and writing, grows freakishly large tomatoes, enjoys cooking, builds furniture, sews beautiful dresses, and goes hiking in the nearby mountains.
Oh, and she’s two people, Canda Mortensen and Deanna Henderson, a mother/daughter writing team.

Donna K. Weaver: A wife, mother, grandmother, Harry Potter geek, Navy brat, Army veteran, and karate black belt. Donna is an avid cruiser, having sailed the Pacific five times. She’s lived in South Korea, the Philippines, Germany, and many US states. She and her husband raised six children and currently have nine grandchildren.

Paige Timothy has been writing for as long as she can remember… and probably before that, too, because her memory gets spotty at a certain point. She loves watching romantic comedies, blushes when the characters do something embarrassing, and sighs in all the right places.

Kaye P. Clark was born in New York City, grew up in southern California and raised her family living on remote cattle ranches in Arizona. She now makes her home in Idaho where she works part-time at the county library and teaches art to young children. She’s a mother and grandmother with a very patient husband who puts up with her passion for writing.

The Ghost Host: Episode 1 (The Ghost Host Seriesby DelSheree Gladden

Ghost HostEveryone thinks Echo Simmons is crazy, but being The Ghost Host isn’t just a YouTube hoax like people think. It’s the only way to control the ghosts haunting her…at least until the FBI shows up asking questions.

The first eighteen years of Echo Simmons’ life have been less than ideal. On more than one occasion her parents have considered committing her. They don’t believe she sees ghosts or that they harass her on a daily basis. So when a rogue ghost begins tormenting her, they’re the last people she’s going to tell. Her best friends Holden and Zara are doing their best to help, but ghost attacks are only the beginning of Echo’s problems.

Handling the ghosts by giving them a voice on YouTube through her webshow has been her saving grace—even if her parents think it’s all a hoax—but that gets a little complicated when the ghost of Madeline Crew reveals a little too much about her previous life and the FBI shows up at her door wanting to know how she gained access to long-buried government secrets.

It just keeps getting worse from there. Madeline’s message to her great grandson sparks a strange connection between Echo and Malachi, which leads to Georgia, secrets, mistakes, love, lies, and life changing revelations.

The Ghost Host

delshereeAuthor DelSheree Gladden

DelSheree Gladden was one of those shy, quiet kids who spent more time reading than talking. Literally. She didn’t speak a single word for the first three months of preschool, but she had already taught herself to read. Her fascination with reading led to many hours spent in the library and bookstores, and eventually to writing. She wrote her first novel when she was sixteen years old, but spent ten years rewriting and perfecting it before having it published.

Native to New Mexico, DelSheree and her husband spent several years in Colorado for college and work before moving back home to be near family again. Their two children love having their cousins close by. When not writing, you can find DelSheree reading, painting, sewing and trying not to get bitten by small children in her work as a dental hygienist. DelSheree has several bestselling young adult series, including “Invisible” which was part of the USA Today Bestselling box set, “Pandora.” The Date Shark Series is her first contemporary romance series, and her first book in her upcoming new adult series, The Ghost Host, will be releasing 2015.

Guest Post

Everyone has those moments in life when they feel like they are the problem, like they are the source of all problems. It’s overwhelming and scary, and 99% of the time…it’s not true. For Echo Simmons, seeing ghosts started out as no big deal. Her parents thought they were imaginary friends and loved that she was always so happy and entertained as a child. Things changed when the ghosts started trying to make Echo help them and the nightmares started.

The real trouble wasn’t just that dealing with the ghosts made it hard for Echo to do well in school and behave like everyone wanted. She could have handled all of that if the biggest source of pain hadn’t been her parents’ refusal to believe her. Even though they loved her and wanted to help, they didn’t understand and all their helping hurt her even worse. The constant blame broke her down, letting them control her life was easier than fighting, and being labelled as a freak sounded better than trying to convince everyone she wasn’t crazy and failing.

It’s not until Echo finds acceptance from an unlikely source that her warped perspective begins to shift. Yes she’s made mistakes and hurt people, but she’s doing her best to survive in a scary and hostile environment. Not everything was her fault, then or now. She’s stronger than she thought, more capable, a source of power instead of pain.

For Echo, bending to negative influences trapped her in a place where fear ruled and her life belonged to everyone else, living and dead. It was suffocating the life from her, until a chance encounter with a rather sneaky ghost brings Malachi Fields into her life. It’s just a spark at first, a whispered thought that maybe she can help him. It pushes back against the darkness trying to crush her and give her hope. The hint of purpose she feels becomes a lifeline.

Maybe Echo isn’t just a problem. Maybe she really does have strength to help others. Maybe she can even do something good in her life…if she can find the courage to try.

Stepping out from under negativity and self-doubt is hard, and it takes a tremendous amount of courage. It’s not a guarantee that everything will turn out. Not every choice will be the right one, but not choosing…not trying…all but guarantees failure, and Echo is tired of failing. She’s spent eighteen years failing at school, life, and living. Echo Simmons’ journey to discover her purpose, strength, and power won’t be an easy one, but she invites all of you to join her. Ghosts, Georgia, love, lies, secrets, betrayal, and the FBI…win or lose, it will be an interesting ride.

The cast is an amazing bunch of complex characters, who are very well developed and add to the story but it is limiting as this is a serial and the cast can’t be well developed unless you use a complete chapter for each. The main characters are Echo & Malachi and the story is told in their alternating points of view. This is listed as New ADult paranormal but can be a Young Adult as the storyline fits their genre crowd as late teens. I love the idea that Echo is adapting to adulthood and finally realizing she does have a purpose in life and needs to “grow up” and show her strength to survive.  It really doesn’t matter what everyone else thinks, like her parents stating it is imaginary friends, etc. We all know in real life that things happen and parents are last to know. You learn to adapt and move on. It will be interesting to see Echo with Malachi in their challenges to survive and go through the emotions as we learn who we are inside of ourself and what we aree capable of. I hope the author gets the serial chapters out quick !!!!

A Rare Nativity by Sam Beeson – Blog Tour with $25 Giveaway

A Rare Nativity (32 pages) by Sam Besson

A Rare NativityA Rare Nativity (1)

We have all heard the song The Twelve Days of Christmas, and we have all seen the traditional Christmas crèche. Now, author Sam Beeson and photographers Nina and Terral Cochran combine these two classic Christmas icons to create A Rare Nativity.
Upon reading the first lines of the book, it is clear the narrator holds a bitter grudge as he sends his enemy crude and discarded gifts: On the first night of Christmas I gave my enemy a briar from a tanglewood tree. On the second night of Christmas I gave my enemy two rotten eggs.

Night after night the gifts pile up shards of glass, rusty nails, gnarled twigs, and more. What the narrator s enemy decides to do with each of these odious gifts is nothing less than a Christmas miracle. The photographic creation of the rare nativity at the end of the book is both a work of art and a wonder to behold.

This is a most amazing picture book. The narrator sends his enemy gifts for Christmas according to the song “The 12 Days of Christmas” but the gifts are not nice at all. They are broken and discarded things, basically what we would consider garbage.
Once those gifts have been received however, the narrator’s enemy does something astonishing. He returns those same gifts, but he has done something magical with them. He has taken the broken and discarded items and transformed them into items that make up a Christmas nativity scene.
The illustrations that go with the story are real photographs of the objects that show the beauty of the transformation from pieces of junk to the beautiful nativity scene. I thought the author and photographers showed great creativity in putting this book together. The book is indeed aptly named A Rare Nativity.
This is a book you will want to read each Christmas to remind you of what Christ has done for us. I gave this book a rating of 5 stars out of 5. I absolutely loved it! I highly recommend it to everyone for their Christmas library.

I cannot even put into words how amazing this book is!
You have this person giving their enemy these throw away items…
And then the supposed enemy turns them around into an incredible nativity scene with the message of please ‘forgive me.’
Shards of glass become a star, bent forks become the kings, crumpled paper becomes an angel.
WOW! This is one you have to see!
Grab a copy for yourself!
Grab a copy for a friend!
Grab a copy for your family!
Christmas can bring out emotions that are hidden throughout the year and people change during the season. This book is amazing as it shows an example how people just do not really see each other the same way. The author came up with wonderful coorelations for each day of Christmas as he was a very angry and frustrating person towards his neighbor. After the 12 days, he receives a gift back – on the box- it states “forgive me” and he opens it. What he sees is amazing sight that showed a truly wonderful gift. The authors were very creative but the underlying premise is there. Christmas is a season for giving. Make it a forgiving season also this year and have a happy season with family and others. I would absoluting give this book as a gift to anyone who believes in Christ as it is a very special book and should be out every XMAS for everyone to remember!

This was my first Elizabeth Langston novel and I absolutely loved it. Her writing style is fantastic and I was gripped right from the start. Right from the beginning of the very first page, the wonderful writing and the fantastical characters and storyline completely grabbed me and I could not put the book down. It was just so amazing…

I Wish is without a doubt one of the most unique and different YA Paranormal books I have ever read. It was incredible. A story about a genie which also hinged on the lead protagonist learning what is really important makes this book a must-read. Lacey goes through such a journey in this book. Her personal growth is absolutely stunning and incredible and it makes this book just such a joy to read and go on this personal discovery with Lacey. I loved it.

I Wish is a fantastic storyline, with a dash of romance that is perfect for any YA fan. I can’t recommend it enough. It was utterly fantastic and I loved every single moment of it. A must-read.

(Kayleigh Gore K-Books online blog)

This is definitely one of the most beautiful and amazingly written books I’ve ever read. Elizabeth Langston has written a fantastic story that drew me in from the first page.

(Sharrice Hewlett Reese’s Reviews blog)

From School Library Journal (Dec 2014): “… Langston wisely limits the power of wishes, so there can be no easy fixes to complex problems. Lacey cannot simply wish away her debt or her mother’s trauma. This allows the story to remain grounded in the everyday struggles and relationships of Lacey, her friends, and her family. It is all the better for it, putting the focus on the compelling and sympathetic characters.”

Praise for the Book

As soon as I started reading this book, I could not put it down. It was a really pleasant reading, fresh, funny, witty, very well written with a great peace and lovable characters.

I enjoyed reading See You Soon Broadway. In fact, I finished it in two days; I could hardly put it down.

With great characters to build on, this story grabbed me.

This is the first book that I have read by this author, but it will not be the last.
If you enjoy reading sweet romance, then definitely pick this up!

I’m must still be daydreaming as I quickly turn around and run smack into a man spilling his drink all over his obviously very expensive suit.
“Oh crap! I’m so sorry,” I yell. I start brushing my hand along his suit coat. Crap, what am I doing touching this man? I finally glance up at his face and wow—tall, dark hair, and very…um…masculine. I must be staring because I don’t even realize that I’m still brushing the front of his coat and now his pants. I’m beyond humiliated now.
“Please don’t worry. It’s fine.” He smiles, holding up his hands. “I mean, it’s only a brand new suit, but hey that’s what dry cleaners are for, right?”
“Um, right.” I hesitate. “Sorry for um, brushing, um.” Really, Maris, shut up, I think to myself.
He holds out his hand. “Trevor Ericson.”
“Hi, I’m Maris Forrester.” I shake his hand and smile thankfully. I really appreciate him changing the subject from my invading his personal space.
“Maris? That a nickname?” he asks curiously.
“No, a family name actually; I’m named after my grandmother.” He has managed to find a few cocktail napkins lying around and he wipes off his coat.
“That’s a cool name. So, how do you know the Phillips?”
Phillips? What’s he talking about?
“The Phillips?” I ask, trying not to cringe that I was rubbing the front of his suit for what seemed like five minutes.
“Yes, Tom and Liv, our hosts for this event?” He seems shocked that I have no idea who Tom and Liv are. I guess I should know that but too late now. Suddenly, I feel guilty like I just crashed a wedding or something.
“Oh right, I don’t actually—we were invited by a mutual friend. It’s a great party though,” I say as I glance around.
“Yes, they do this every year to benefit the arts. It’s such a shame so many schools are removing them from their schedules. Liv, of course, has such a passion for this cause being that she’s also a musician. She’s performed all over the world.”
“She was a performer?” I ask excitedly. “That’s fantastic. I’m a singer, too, or at least I was, now I’m a vocal instructor.”
“Really? That’s interesting, why don’t you sing anymore?”
Should I be having this conversation with a perfect stranger? He just keeps asking me questions. I probably shouldn’t be rude considering I just spilled alcohol over his Armani suit. Okay, so I don’t know for sure that it’s Armani, maybe Versace? I’m not exactly up-to-date on what designers men are wearing being that Kyle is more of a Gap kind of guy.
“You know how it is, life I guess. Anyway, where did Liv perform?”
“With some orchestra, she’s an amazing violin player. I went to college with Tom, we were fraternity brothers.”
I roll my eyes, figures that Trevor was a frat boy. He’s totally charming and outgoing, he was probably the president, too.
“Did you just give me an eye roll?” he asks playfully. I guess that was pretty obvious.
I laugh. “Yes. I was just thinking that I could totally see you being a frat boy.”
He cracks a smile. “I take offense to that, but I guess the choir girls don’t really like frat boys do they? I may have to send you my dry cleaning bill after all.” I start to feel uncomfortable. My amazing boyfriend is somewhere around here waiting for me and I’m chatting (not flirting) with some random frat boy.
